IBM
to hold more hands
It is already
being assumed that a good part of the revenue stream for many of the vendors
working in the SOA space is pitched around consultation and support and
that the technology gizmos are, in fact, secondary. Well, here is an example
that appears to be pointing in a more benign direction, at least in the
short term, for IBM yesterday launched some new technical resources to
help ISVs to cut the costs of service-based application enablement.
The new service is open to ISVs that participate in the PartnerWorld Industry
Network and offers enhanced technical support and access to free consultations.
The idea, of course, is to make it easier to build solutions based on
IBM kit and software.
It will be available through IBM's Virtual Innovation Center and will
deliver free On Demand Architecture Consultations as well as unlimited
email and technical resources. These will only be available free for six
months, however. There is also a cost-cutting element in that the resources
will be available over the Web so ISVs can reduce expenses and save on
the need to travel to development labs.
IBM's support resources include Complimentary On Demand Architecture Consultations,
where ISV's can take advantage of free consultations designed to help
improve productivity and profitability; unlimited email technical support
for six months; and 24/7 access to IBM's Virtual Innovation Center 24/7.
The resources can be accessed remotely so ISVs can perform enablement
activities anywhere, at any time, without the need to travel. Through
the Virtual Innovation Center, ISVs can access a combination of educational
coursework, live mentoring, online technical support, solution roadmaps,
customer simulations, discussion forums and more any day and any time.
