Digital Evolution buys Flamenco Networks

As the major elements involved in building SOA infrastructures start to crystalise, so we will start to see companies in these areas start to merge, acquire or be acquired. And here is an example. One of the key elements in building an SOA infrastructure will be the management tools needed to control the process, which means that those companies looking to be major players in that space will need to build their technology portfolios. This is already common practice with the likes of HP, and now a smaller but no less ambitious company is getting in on the act.

Digital Evolution moved to acquire Flamenco Networks for its Web services provisioning and user interface technology, together with its established centre for offering hosted services. The specific attraction was the ability for Flamenco to deepen Digital Evolution's .NET offering in a market split between J2EE and Microsoft .NET applications.

As if to make the point about the way the market is bound to develop, the Digital Evolution characterised itself as an aggressive consolidation company in an area where a small number of companies are going to be successful. One company spokesman put it directly: "we’re the alpha male." Well, there you have it in a nutsell.
