BMC
aims to unify service and infrastructure
It
is reasonable to suggest that no architect is going to get very far with
any attempt at building a solution if they are unsure as to what resources
are available within the IT environment. So one of the important bits
of technology that will be required is something that will bring together
all that information and make it readily accessible. That is the task
BMC Software is pitching with what it claims to be the first open, integrated,
ITIL architected Configuration Management Database (CMDB), known as Atrium.
This
has been designed to provide a single, common set of information on the
configuration of the IT environment and the relationships between the
elements within it. With this tool, the company hopes that users will
be able to better manage IT environments; from tracking asset lifecycles,
through managing the risk associated with change and on to responding
to customer service issues. Atrium provides a common data repository,
shared service model, and unified user and reporting interfaces to help
users build a Business Service Management (BSM) environment. www.bmc.com
