Adding to the 'add-on' market

Here is an example of how the development of SOA may offer applications developers new market opportunities by adding components and sub-systems to more dominant platforms or environments. In this case, Visible Path, a developer of enterprise relationship capital management (RCM) software, has had its products certified by salesforce.com for use with the latter’s CRM-oriented enterprise application services.

Visible Path applies the science of social network analysis, allowing professionals to access the entire enterprise's trusted relationship network without invading privacy or compromising relationships. It integrates with salesforce.com to help users understand all potential paths they have to a company or individual, identify the strongest relationships and secure a trusted introduction. It integrates into the Saleforce system via the sforce on demand platform.

Since sforce was launched just over one year ago, salesforce.com has created an ecosystem that is significantly changing the way on-demand applications are built. The sforce community of 3,000 developers, 750 enterprises and more than 100 ISVs who are using sforce to customise, integrate and extend salesforce.com to create custom CRM solutions. This is a model for developers that could well be applied in many other areas.
